This project, which is a partnership between Thames Valley University (TVU), WestFocus and Slough Business and Community Partnership (SBCP), is targeted at employers and employees in Slough. It seeks to create a new model of public health initiative in the workplace where employers and individuals collaborate together. Research by TVU shows that many employers do not adequately manage their occupational health and human resources - and low investment in employee health may lead to a loss of economic productivity through sickness, absenteeism and poor staff retention.
Many employers remain concerned about the increasingly harsh regulatory environment and an increasing trend towards litigation by employees around a wide range of workplace health issues - and the research suggests they are looking for a clear, structured solution. The CPHI aims to provide just that support for business managers and their employees, putting them in a position where they are aware of the issues, and have the tools to deal with them - in the process creating a healthier workplace and healthier staff.
The CPHI has enjoyed considerable achievements during 2007-8 thanks to a Lottery Community Fund Grant of £10, 000 and in collaboration with Slough Business Community Partnership, TVU, Corporate Health Ltd., Berkshire East Public Health Department, Cardio-Wellness Charity, Slough Borough Council, Wexham Park Hospital NHST, Slough Estates Group and Queensmere and Observatory Shopping Centre.
A total of 23 public events took place with an average of 85 people attending each of the shopping centre events and an average of 12 people attending each of the library events. A presentation was also delivered the the Retail Group of Queensmere and Observatory Shopping Centre. The project reached over 1400 members of the public during 2007-2008.
