The WestFocus Grid Alliance project, involving Brunel University and the University of Westminster, was set up in 2006, dedicated to applying the benefits of Grid computing to real-world industry applications. Working directly with practitioners from a diverse range of service and manufacturing industries, the Grid Alliance offered knowledge, experience and tools.
The University of Westminster, building on market feedback acquired from Grid Alliance events and customer contact, went on to develop the Westminster Grid Application Support Service, which is now available to assist potential grid adopters to investigate and plan how their applications could be deployed on private or commercial grid systems, and to help to modify them to make this possible.
Brunel University now offers training courses for industry on grid technology, and how it can form an effective infrastructure for Service Oriented Architectures.
