The Network brings together a broad spectrum of expertise in the areas of:

• Synthesis and formulation of functional materials
• Biomaterials
• Advanced analytical techniques for materials characterization
• Materials processing and fabrication at both macro- and nano-levels
• Innovative materials design in electronics and other applications.

By doing so, the Network provides an integrated knowledge base that is readily available to businesses and other interested parties. The Network will foster communities of knowledge in the key areas:

• Undertake a mapping and mining function for industrial collaborators in areas of strategic importance
• Offer a co-ordinated and multi-disciplinary service to industry on a short term consultancy basis or through externally funded research programmes
• Provide greater leverage to external funding proposals
