The Sustainability in Practice Network engages in activities and awareness raising with respect to sustainable development amongst SMEs in the WestFocus region. This is done via specific project work, driven by our academics in partnership with similarly-minded external organisations.
The project below is our first in this area.
Project: Evaluating and Developing Methodologies for Sustainable Business Practices
This project works with key public and private sector organisations in Surrey to promote and develop more sustainable procurement strategies.
It also assesses changing attitudes among Surrey-based SMEs towards becoming more sustainable in their broader business practices.
Key activities:
- Working with target groups to develop an ethos of more sustainable business practice, specifically procurement
- Working with SMEs to establish the benefits of more sustainable procurement practices, suggesting ways to identify, reduce and/or mitigate environmental impacts
- Providing guidance to SMEs and procurement groups via targeted events highlighting how environmental performance can be managed
