Geographical Information Systems : Groundwork Thames Valley collaboration
The SiP Network has facilitated a number of external collaborations on projects involving WestFocus expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
In association with WestFocus, the projects below are led by Groundwork Thames Valley, an independent, social, environmental and economic regeneration charity (www.groundwork-tv.org.uk). Each of the projects uses GIS to engage local people and motivate them to improve their quality of life by using and improving the local environment.
‘Planning for Real’: Increasing public and student knowledge of Geographical Information Systems
Groundwork Thames Valley joins with the WestFocus Sustainability in Practice Network and Brunel University to increase public and student knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
SAUL Heathrow Airport Corridor project
Groundwork Thames Valley joins with the WestFocus Sustainability in Practice Network and Brunel University on a Sustainable & Accessible Urban Landscapes (SAUL) project assessing a site near the new Terminal 5 at BAA’s Heathrow Airport.
Donkey Wood, West London
Groundwork Thames Valley joins with the WestFocus Sustainability in Practice Network and Brunel University on a feasibility study into regeneration around Donkey Wood, Hounslow, West London.
Colne Valley Regional Park
Groundwork Thames Valley, local councils, Brunel University and WestFocus co-operate on a GIS mapping of the Colne Valley Regional Park.
SAUL Urban Forestry project
From March 2005 to March 2006, an ongoing project has been assessing local communities’ understanding of urban forestry and their site selection priorities.
Sustainable Transport project
A potential continuation of the WestFocus link-up with Groundwork, Groundwork Thames Valley and Groundwork South East may take place in the form of a sustainable transport study project with the University of Westminster.
