As part of the WestFocus Business Acceleration programme  Business Creation has the role to accelerate the commercialisation of the consortium partners research activities. To do that it  focuses on those near-to-market opportunities that have recently emerged following an extensive data mining exercise, carried out on all the research activities within the WestFocus Consortium. Some of these opportunities may move forward through joint ventures with local businesses. WestFocus Business Creation provides advice, expertise and access to financing for licensing and spin out projects.

It also expects to generate significant investment from business angels, commercial sponsors and seed funds, and aims to:

• Share expertise in technology transfer, licensing, spin out, and contract management
• Develop sources of finance for businesses that have been formed as a result of WestFocus help
• Improve the coordination of existing incubation activity
• Provide seed funding at various stages of business development
