Business Support

If you are a business looking to employ a student or graduate for short or longer term assignments there are a variety of opportunities available through WestFocus.

STEP placements, which normally take place over the summer vacation or other short-term options, can be a good starting point. A year out placement may be more suitable if you have a more substantial body of work for a student, whilst the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) sheme for graduates may be appropriate if you require specialist input over a longer period.

KTPs - formerly Teaching Company Scheme - are part-DTI funded programmes to help companies access the wealth of knowledge, expertise and resources available in universities to develop new products, services and processes. KT Partnerships support companies by providing funding (up to 60% of costs), project management and training to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology from the university.

Work-Based Learning (WBL) programmes provide the opportunity for you or your staff to gain academic recognition for knowledge and expertise acquired whilst being at work.  It can provide academic qualifications based upon the contributions made to an organisation’s success.

The key to the success of these courses is the Learning Contract – a framework that enables the course to be tailored specifically around your work and your organisation. The Learning Contract is a means of establishing an individual programme of learning by setting out what learning goals (similar to modules in a taught programme) are to be achieved as a result of work-based activities.

A large number of subject areas are supported including: business & management, design, healthcare, science, humanities, technology.
