Welcome to DJ Life
Welcome to the online version of DJ Life, one of the games in the WestFocus Apprentice Entrepreneur series. The purpose of DJ Life is to teach you the principles of establishing and running your own business, and to improve your skills as a potential entrepreneur.
The DJ Life game is based on a mobile DJ business that requires you to consider marketing, negotiation, stock control, cash flow, and some key skills in mixing record tracks from music created especially for the game.
The game starts with some initial entrepreneurship questions that you need to complete to determine how much start-up capital you will get, and which mentor will provide you with occasional hints and advice throughout the game.
As you progress through the game you can buy better equipment, more records and better transport to get around - all necessary items in your quest to become a super DJ. Remember though, running any business demands attention to cash-flow - make sure you keep a close eye on the money.
Feel free to examine and try out different business strategies, i.e. marketing decisions or negotiating practices - but be careful, gig offers can be withdrawn if you can’t reach agreed terms!
Your understanding of your audience is crucial, if they don’t like your music your rating drops and this will have a knock on effect on the gigs you get and the income available. Make sure you keep up to date with the changing tastes of the town.
DJ Life runs for 12 months (in accelerated time), which will probably take you a total of between 6 and 8 hours of game play, unless you go bankrupt before that - which you probably will initially! If this happens, start a new game and try a different strategy.
You can log in to your profile to play DJ Life from any computer, but you can only continue a saved game using the same computer it was started on. You can create any number of games within your profile, but each one must have a unique game name and password combination.
We hope this game will encourage you to be more entrepreneurial in real life in whatever you do - and who knows it may even encourage you to run a business like DJ Life for real.
